The frenetic blur of Fashion Week is always a great reminder of how few designers are willing to push the boundaries and really burn their messages into our brains (and on our blogs). But thankfully, Alexander Wang is not among the chaff. Over the years, he has steadily emerged as a sort of Fashion anti-hero, confidently blazing his own trail and doing it better and better with every bigger, more beautiful collection. This season was a continuation of what he does best: Confidence and a kind of stylized urban drama. The emphasis was on major volume (BIG quilted capes and multi-zippered aviator trousers), luxe fabrics and textures (fur, leather, and a wonderful sculpted boiled wool), and serious attitude. Not everyone can pull off Alex Wang, and that's okay. The exaggerated shoulders, collars, and cuffs were stunning and enough to make any woman want to grow into them. As for the mirrored high-heeled loafers in shades of blueberry and Christmas red...well, we know what's going to be showing up a lot in our Shoe Stalking features next season.
