In an unlikely pairing, Anderson Cooper has been officially announced as the host of the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards. True, the CNN anchor is a lot more fashionable than, say, colleagues like Brian Williams or Matt Lauer, but hard-hitting reporting in Sri Lanka and New Orleans doesn't exactly translate to emceeing the Oscars of fashion. Then again, his mother is Gloria Vanderbilt, he's a stone-cold silver fox, and he narrates Broadway's How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying...a skill that will serve him well while he passes off trophies to the likes of Marc Jacobs and Lady Gaga (she's confirmed to attend!). Says Coop pal and CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg: “Anderson Cooper’s involvement in this year’s gala will lend yet another exciting dimension to fashion’s biggest awards.” And, should a disaster—natural or sartorial—spring up, Cooper will know just where Anna's sitting.
