Bowie’s Back! Thin White Duke Releases First Single In 10 Years

Though he remains one of the best-selling, most-respected recording artists of all time, some of us were actually beginning to wonder if David Bowie would ever release new music again. Now that he's hit his 66th birthday (today, actually), we thought he might have hung up his super-skinny jeans and quietly walked away from the microphone to concentrate on his many, many other pursuits. But, this morning, we were surprised and delighted to find a new Bowie single, "Where Are We Now?" waiting for us on the internets.

Perhaps appropriate for someone who's traveled the world many times over and technically graduated to senior-citizen status, "Where Are We Now?" is a slow, soft, loping crooner, filled with...what do the Germans say?...ah,
Weltschmerz
. The track displays some of the jazzy, soulful DNA of his last effort, Heathen, with the same basic themes. Now, if sad Bowie wasn't what you were hoping for, don't fret. There's a full album of material dropping March 12, so all you "Let's Dance" and "Diamond Dogs" fans may still get your sing-a-long, late-night burner. It's an exciting day, people.
