If there's any one profession that requires hours upon hours of gliding like a swan in a pair of spindly heels, we'll argue that it's modeling. (Should you disagree, we reply: Fashion Week.) So, naturally we love a lady who can defy IRL situations that traditionally call for fancy, leg-lengthening, (usually) toe-crushing footwear. In this case, we're referring to Karlie Kloss who took to the Cannes red carpet in what, essentially, were beach sandals.
The film festival, held in the South of France, officially kicked off yesterday. And, while newcomers like Kendall Jenner arrived in Chanel and spiked, teeny-strapped heels, Kloss opted for something much more casual. Her camel-colored, wide-strap flats were mostly hidden beneath her billowy Valentino frock adorned with sheer lace. It was only when the 6'1" model moved her eggplant-hued train that we happened to peek the sandals beneath.
This is far from a first as far as red-carpet flats go, but with lush, extravagant fashion historically playing such a huge role at the Cannes festival, we love that this look went there. And, say what you will about heels, but Kloss looks pretty happy to be wearing the most comfortable shoes of the night.
