One of our favourite things about Iskra Lawrence is her body-positivity — and her ability to use that self-love to teach us important lessons. While magazines may choose to make models look as flat and contoured as possible, that's just not reality. Lawrence took to YouTube and Instagram on Sunday to share the truth about one body feature specifically: fat rolls.
"Your fat rolls are beautiful," her post begins. "And the reason we have been lead to believe they aren't is because we don't see them in the media unless someone's being shamed for weight gain or ridiculed for their body."
Both the picture and video show just how easily the body can be manipulated into hiding something totally natural, and Lawrence admits she found herself gravitating towards these positions because the industry had trained her that fat rolls were "flaws."
"Because even if I did happen to have a few shots where I'm in a position you can see back fat or rolls someone had decided it's more 'beautiful' 'aspirational' or will inspire more customers to buy the product if those so called 'flaws' don't exist," she continues.
That's why she's so happy to work with Aerie, which chooses photos based on confidence rather than unrealistic body standards. Thanks to their acceptance, Lawrence wants to make more of an effort to show her real body in her day-to-day posts.
"We're imperfectly perfect," she says in the video. "And that's absolutely fine."
