This spring, the one thing I absolutely, positively cannot live without is...
"I've packed every inch of my little Brooklyn garden with spring flowers and I love to watch the progression as each type comes to life — first the tiny crocuses and lily of the valley, then the tulips in purples and pinks, in May the lilac (I am nuts for the smell), and in early June I get hundreds of pale-pink blooms from my New Dawn climbing roses."
Current obsession...
"On a trip to Istanbul I discovered lokum — the real Turkish delight — which is scooped out of a big brass bowl and into beautiful boxes in a shop in the spice market. I am crazy for it and my friend Elizabeth Hewitt, who owns the wonderful Istanbul shop Tulu, brings me a couple of boxes every time she comes to New York for the gift show."
The one song I can listen to over and over...and over to is...
"I love "The Rising Tide" by Lee Ranaldo. He used to be in Sonic Youth and this song is on his solo album Last Night on Earth. I saw him perform the song at the Bell House in Brooklyn and it brought me back to that expansive. open-sky feeling you have when you're a teenager and anything is possible. "
Next up on my Netflix is...
"Can't wait to binge on the upcoming second season of Orange is the New Black. And I love documentaries: L'Amour Fou, about Yves St. Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, is up next in my queue."
