When going for a statement lip—like this bright orange lipstick from Australian Fashion Week that has us totally captivated—the best strategy is to keep the rest of your makeup simple. Take a cue from makeup artist Napoleon Perdis' handiwork at Karla Spetic's show and stick to black mascara, a lightweight foundation, and a hint of eyebrow pencil to balance things out.
But there's an unexpected twist to getting this almost-neon, coral lip: Perdis started with a wine-colored lip pencil. He applied lip liner to the top and bottom lip line, then feathered on the lipstick with a lip brush—ultimately blending the two shades for an overall effect that's a rich, pop of color. To finish, he lightly reapplied the lip liner to get a clean line and keep the lipstick in place. (You can also dust on translucent powder to help the lipstick set).
