3 Out-There Eyeliner Looks Any Girl Can Try

Bright lips and neon eyes aren't the only way to make a statement this summer. Arm yourself with one of the basics—a black, stay-put eyeliner—and get subtlety graphic with looks that stray beyond the lash-line. The beauty of classic black liner is its ability to morph from a sleek and simple line to an outrageously eye-catching look with just a stroke. So, take some cues from the runways—think extra angular at Chanel Haute Couture, double "wings" at Giorgio Armani, and understated yet theatrical angles and curves at Louis Vuitton—and whip up an eyeliner-focused summer makeup look that's impossible not to notice.

Winged Beauties—Chanel makeup guru, Peter Philips, modernized the retro-winged look with majorly angled, thick black liner that jetted above the corners of the eye and paired it with a lightly smoked out, shimmery eyeshadow and natural lips.

Double Duty—At Giorgio Armani's fall '11 show, makeup artist Linda Cantello created a double-winged look that extended straight beyond the top and bottom lashlines. She kept the rest of the makeup minimal with a creamy, light mauve shade on the eyes and lips.

Pure Theatrics—At Louis Vuitton, thin lines of black liner hugged the outer corners of the eyes, coming to a slight cat-eye. But makeup artist Pat McGrath deviated from tradition and drew in a curve that traced the inner corner of the eye for an extra-graphic effect. The rest of the look stayed minimal, keeping the focus on the eyes, with flawless skin, mascara, and clear lip balm.
