Apparently, they can! An official statement by H&M and Margiela came through this morning that yesterday's rumors are indeed true. The announcement is just as delightfully weird as we'd hoped too, with Margiela sending through a typical Curriculum Vitae in lieu of a press release, including Maison Martin Margiela's values & ideas ("ANONYMITY, WHITES, AMBIGUITY"), philosophy ("THE WORK OF THE GROUP RATHER THAN OF ONE DESIGNER*") juxtaposed against H&M's ("FASHION AND QUALITY AT THE BEST PRICE" and "FASHION FOR ALL").
The collab will be available this November 15 in 230 stores and online (finally we have a timeline for when that's going to happen, too!). Says the house of Margiela, "The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all." For Margiela novices, expect to see lots of basic (but impeccably cut) black and white shirts, skirts, pants, and sweaters. More hard-core fans should expect lovely suiting, creepy photo-prints, and statement shoes. Now, for Kanye's sake, let's hope they make jackets, too.
