John Cusack warned us: The end is near y'all. Hurricane Sandy, currently approaching the coast of Cuba, may soon make its way up the East Coast and bring with it weather fit for the Abominable Snowman. The Associated Press predicts Sandy will initiate "an early winter storm" and a "blast of arctic air." Greatttttt.
Due to the hyperbolic nature of these reports, we can't help but think forecasters may be trying to instill some fear into those skeptical New Yorkers out there (Hurricane Irene, anyone?). First, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecaster, Jim Cisco, warned us it would be a "weeklong event," one we definitely did not RSVP to. Furthermore, he says, there are no "modern precedents for what the models are suggesting." Well, um, okay. Meterology director of Weather Underground, Jeff Masters, scared us even further: "The Perfect Storm only did $200 million of damage and I'm thinking a billion." Anyone who is familiar with the famously terrifying film of the same name may begin crying.
