This Isn’t An Onion Headline: Nirvana Reunites, With Paul McCartney As Kurt

Because there isn't much left to do to those things we once considered sacred (romantic teen comedies, cult sci-fi movies, and Jared Leto's eyebrows) other than take it out of retirement, light it on fire, and then parade its charred remains around, Paul McCartney is fronting a Nirvana reunion. Let's recap: The often-controversial, always popular Beatle is taking the place of Kurt Cobain in a Nirvana reunion. Excuse us, we need to shower.
Granted, it is for tonight's 12-12-12 Sandy charity concert, and rumor is the group won't actually be playing Nirvana songs (which, if they did, would make this a travesty, not just uncomfortable), but the whole thing feels a bit like traipsing around on hallowed ground. Alongside Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, former Nirvana bassist Kris Novoselic, and Nirvana pal/sometime guitarist Pat Smear (who is also in the Foo), Paul McCartney is set to "jam with some friends." According to The Guardian, Sir Paul said, "I didn't really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said: 'Whoa? You guys haven't played together for all that time?' And somebody whispered to me: 'That's Nirvana. You're Kurt.' I couldn't believe it." Neither can we, Paul. Neither can we. (The Guardian)
