In the mood for a fashion headache? Louis Vuitton once again tapped French artist Daniel Buren (who designed the checkered backdrop for the brand's spring '13 show in Paris), to create a set in the same yellow checkerboard for its next ad campaign. Shot in a New York studio by famed photographer Steven Meisel, the kaleidoscopic ads are slated to appear in February.
The models are outfitted in mod pieces from the spring collection, which, according to Jacobs, are a play on Louis Vuitton’s iconic Damier check. Like the show, the double-take setup heightens “the message of repetition and the repetition of patterns,” Marc Jacobs said. Coincidentally, the same theme was also prominent in the brand's polka-dotted collection with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
In addition to brand history, Buren's most famous public works served as inspiration for the collection. The artist will also design window displays for select Louis Vuitton boutiques to correspond with the release of the ready-to-wear collection in March...sure to stop traffic, if you ask us. (WWD)
