No Joke, Blokes: The Milan Menswear Shows Are All About British Style

moncler_menswear
When it comes to European bragging rights, the Italians have long lorded their superiority in sartorial and culinary matters over us Brits. And while, for this week at least, we're happy to hold our hands up on the food charge (it's hard to defend horsemeat burgers), the tables may have turned on the fashion front. Commence gloating, immediately.
It's been pointed out that the Milan menswear shows have been teeming with British influences, from Savile Row-style suiting at Dsquared, Gucci, and Giorgio Armani to kilts and tartan prints at Moncler's "Scottish Highland Games" show.
“I wanted this English gent feeling,” Daniele Cavalli, the son of Roberto Cavalli, said of the label's Anglicised influence. “This gentleman feeling will have to be in all aspects of the day.”
Throw in Christopher Bailey's souped-up trenches and checks at Burberry Prorsum, where animal prints provided a Kray-brothers-go-glam aesthetic, and the Anglophile trend is in no doubt. Guess we know what we're doing after all, eh? (New York Times)
