CR Fashion Book Tiptoes Into Issue #2

slideshow-1
Things are looking up for Carine Roitfeld. The former Vogue editrix launched her own magazine last fall, with a 50,000-copy run, 150 pages of ads (almost half of the total), and Kate Upton on the cover. Now, the second issue is hot off the presses with 10,000 more copies and nearly as many ad pages — plus a snazzy new cover reflecting the style star's love affair with ballet, featuring Ukranian dancer Sergei Polunin and a vertigo-inducing shoe by Brigitte Niedermair (as photographed by Gus Van Sant).
Roitfeld has been taking ballet classes for a year and a half, WWD reports. “My arch is perfection. But ballet is very tough, you’re never good enough.... When you are a dancer, you don’t get money. You do it because you love it. It’s so pure and beautiful — the freedom, the movement, the gestures." Judging by her bold move to start a high-brow publication in an age when print is, to say the least, in flux, we might say the same of her love of the mag trade!
Though that extreme heel is making our feet hurt, you can bet we'll still be rushing to newsstands (in flats, of course) on February 28 to pick up a copy. The pages inside promise the intrigue of one-on-ones with dance legends and — wait for it — a séance with dearly departed Russian dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. If that's not refreshing for all you print junkies out there, then consider yourself officially jaded.
