Finally, a fashion blog dedicated to those of us too lazy to properly apply mascara, wash our hair, or wear pumps. Six months after stepping down from her spot in Parliament, conservative politician-turned-(un)fashionista slash chick-lit author Louise Mensch (a.k.a. Louise Bagshawe for you romance-novel fiends) announced via Twitter the launch of her new appropriately titled website
Unfashionista.
It's only a day old, but Mensch already has ten posts up and two extensive galleries for us to explore. A self-described "lazy girls guide to gloss," Mensch's goal is to offer off-the-cuff style tips for the girl who's not chasing the trends — all sprinkled with a little self-ridicule (check out the "Oh Dear" gallery poking fun at her not-so-glamorous moments). The 41-year-old mother and wife of the manager of some of rock 'n' roll's greatest acts is no stranger to fashion. After all, she does get gussied up in Dolce & Gabbana for magazine spreads and doesn't shy away from heels; only she'll be the first to grab the flats when her pins start hobbling.
That's the driving force behind Unfashionista. There will be no Fashion Week coverage or designer buzz. There will, however, be style solutions for the sartorially challenged woman. Mensch's wisdom and casual approach keeps it light and unpretentious. She begins a post on eye makeup with, "A key rule of unfashionistas is that you look good with minimum to zero effort" — a rule easier said than done, of course. Mensch knows this, though, and sympathizes. Her belief is that style should never compromise comfort. We may agree with you there, Mrs. Mensch, but we can't help but lust after those Karen Walker patent-leather pumps at this season's NYFW. (Telegraph)
