Is David Bowie’s Latest Video The Most Fashionable Film, Ever?

David Bowie music videos feel a little like buses. You wait 10 years for one then two come along in quick succession. Not that we are complaining. Okay, fine, about the waiting part, we totally are. But, the musical offering so far this year from the Thin White Duke has been fantastic, to say the least.
And the video for the second single "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" from the soon-to-be-released album, The Next Day, offers a fresh glimpse into a theme that is close to the singer’s heart. Fame.
In the video, David Bowie and Tilda Swinton play a husband and wife, whose new neighbours are a rock star couple in the form of transgender models Saskia be Brauw and Andrej Pejic. The duo terrorizes our stars until everyone’s roles and identities are totally reversed. And it's mesmerising.

The video is beautifully shot by Floria Sigismondi and we can’t stop thinking about Swinton’s wardrobe.
But, what has really stayed with us is the image of Bowie walking through a supermarket saying to the store worker, “Happy hump day, Phil.” The most mundane phrase spoken by a man who is anything but. Truly spine-tingling.
