In the fashion world, it's pretty commonplace for fashion editors to jump ship from magazine editorial to online or a brick-and-mortar retail space. But, in a reverse move that has come as a complete surprise, Kate Phelan, creative director at Topshop and former co-fashion director at Vogue for over 18 years, is to rejoin the magazine she left only 20 months ago. The most interesting part of the move is that she’s not saying good-bye to the high-street chain. Rather, she’ll be working for both companies. Very cushy.
It hasn’t been revealed exactly in what capacity Phelan will be working at Vogue. Condé Nast has only released that the role will be “significant” and “not full-time.” Additionally, her position at Topshop will stay the same; she'll continue to oversee everything to do with the brand’s identity as well as product development — something she does very well as evidenced by the Topshop Unique autumn/winter show.

Signs were there in January that something might have been up when she tweeted celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight to say how jealous she was that the “dream team” was shooting in St Barths without her. Now, she gets to return to inspiring us with the shoots she creates with her “dream team,” as well as helping us look our most fashionable selves with the collections she brings to life at Topshop. Kate Phelan, we can’t wait to see what the next stage of your career has in store for you and us. (Telegraph)
