Some may say that diamonds are a girls' best friend, and while we're not exactly arguing that fact, we'd say that our sparkly BFF of choice these days comes in a glass (or a flute, to be more specific). In celebration of the new spring season, Veuve Cliquot has launched La Grande Dame Rosé 2004, an exclusive blend of Veuve Clicquot’s eight traditional grand crus: Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Verzy, Verzenay, Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil sur Oger.
The newest Veuve rosé blend builds on the brand's legacy (the world's first rosé champagne was mixed in 1818 by Madame Cliquot herself) and showcases a copper-pink color and a crisp, slightly acidic profile (no overly-sweet notes here!). The bouquet opens with notes of peach, currant, and raspberry and develops into richer notes of cinnamon and cherry. Meaning: this rosé has enough body and presence to stand up to richer foods — even richer foods like steak, previously considered a mismatch with bubbly. (We should know, we taste-tested the 'pagne at a exclusive dinner at Peter Luger in Brooklyn....and whoa did the combo work together!).
While you may want to keep this luxe bottle to yourself — how chic is that black 'n' pink pair up? — it's just about the best way to impress at any Big Apple event you're attending — whether it be a gift for a birthday, wedding shower, or spring cocktail hour, we'd say that the answer should always be pink champagne. Hint, hint...
Veuve Cliquot La Grande Dame Rose Champagne 2004, $295, available at select fine wine and spirits stores nationwide.
