Marilyn Monroe’s Likeness Will Be Used To Sell $39 Shoes

It's arguable that Marilyn Monroe's look and style is timeless, but the not-so-recent 50th anniversary of her death in 2012 has led to a year+ of movies, products, events, and collaborations that have really kept her image alive in a very commercial way. In the latest cash-in move by Authentic Brands Group (the brand development company that owns the rights to the Monroe estate and license), a line of Marilyn-inspired shoes is in the works, and is planned to be available in a variety of department stores during the 2013 holiday season.
The collection will include flats, pumps, booties, and boots, and will retail for $39 to $79. For a woman whose life was spent navigating and fighting an industry obsessed with commodifying her body and image, it's just sad that she can't seem to catch a break even 50+ years after her death.
