Why Miuccia Prada Will Never Go For Obvious Sex Appeal

We never really pegged Miuccia Prada as someone who goes for the obvious and expected, and now we know why. In an interview with WWD, the head of the Italian
fashion empire reveals some fascinating and very telling facts about herself and her highly respected brand. Titled "The Mystique of Miuccia Prada," WWD provides a candid one-on-one with Prada, which comes a year after her celebrated MET exhibit, but finally allows us to understand how her collections — two per season, counting Miu Miu — come to fruition.

While the designer touches on several elements of her creative process — namely being able to address the need for change each season and the art of contradiction — Prada's most intriguing explanation speaks to the seductive power of her iconic line. As Prada explains, what makes her designs so appealing to women might just be the fact that they're not intended to please anyone but the woman who's wearing them. "I’m always trying to do something that is…never to please men in the most banal way," she says. She continues to state that whatever your sexual preference may be, "seduction is very important for all people." As a designer who acknowledges the importance of feminism and empowering women, it's refreshing to hear a real response to a woman's need to feel seductive, but never at the cost of succumbing to the obvious and overly sexual.
