We're all for a non-traditional wedding — be ye gay, straight, punk, or prep, you should feel free to buck convention and do your own thing, aesthetically speaking and otherwise. But we were under the impression that most brides stuck with white. Apparently we were wrong, according to a recent 3M study. More and more women are opting for pink, red, and even blue gowns on the big day.
We've seen a number of celebrities go pink lately, from Jessica Biel to Reese Witherspoon, and that trend is catching on among young brides (or wedding-day dreamers). Oddly enough, though, women in the study said their mothers' gowns were most likely to influence their color choice.
The study found that 27% of 18 to 24 year olds would not get married in traditional white, versus 85% of 35 to 44 year olds. Red was the most popular alternative choice, followed by pink, then blue. We'll try anything once, but we've seen too many '80s wedding pictures not to know that going too trendy can be cause for regret later on. That said, done right, breaking out of the all-white tradition could be an amazing way to add your signature touch.
