Gwyneth Paltrow’s Met Ball Drama Has Us Scratching Our Heads

After the pomp and circumstance of this year's Met Gala ended, a small, yet very real cloud hung over the star-studded fashion festivities: Gwyneth Paltrow. The GOOP gal, who had been invited by Valentino's Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, immediately spoke out against the event, labeling it as "un-fun." As she told USA Today, "I'm never going again. It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all."
As if one Gwyneth put-down didn't sting enough, Paltrow went on to bash the bash even further, hating on everything from Kanye's performance to the over-ambitious punk theme. She lambasted the celebrities who chose to deck themselves in the night's garb, saying, "We're all a bit old to be dressed punk." While we certainly would have chosen some, ahem, nicer words, we totally see where she's coming from. Hot, crowded parties can be a total drag, and we appreciate her honesty.

But then, good old Gwynnie threw us yet another curveball with her latest GOOP newsletter. Instead of sticking with her anti-Met-Gala sentiments, she dedicated the entire edition to the soiree — behind-the-scenes snaps of her dress fittings, interviews with the Valentino team, and even offering some of her own picks for punk-inspired duds. Color us confused. If nothing else, Paltrow has always been a woman of conviction (no matter how outlandish some of those opinions can be). Was this newsletter an attempt to make amends with the Costume Institute, or did she simply cool off a couple weeks after the (allegedly) dreadful event? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
