How Fashion And Hollywood Came Together To Fight AIDS

Hollywood has faced no shortage of scandals and controversies, but nothing rocked the town quite like the AIDS epidemic in the 80s. In a time when panic was widespread and support was scarce, silver-screen royalty joined forces with the fashion industry to create a fundraiser fashion show, bringing hope and benefiting those living with the disease. It evolved into a series of fundraisers spanning the next ten years — a monumental effort that is the subject of a new documentary that needs your help in order to bring it to life.
Filmmaker Alfonso Salcedo has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund his movie There Was Magic, which looks back at those beyond glam AIDS benefits that took place each year in Los Angeles from 1986 to 1996. Inspired by the book Heavenly Bodies: Remembering Hollywood and Fashion's Favorite AIDS Benefit, which was written by the event's founder Michael Anketell, the film chronicles how the two industries came together in the midst of a crisis. Featuring rare archival footage of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and more, There Was Magic without a doubt promises to be glamorous and fun — with a heart.
So, head to the film's Kickstarter page, watch the trailer below, and consider making a pledge. All donations will help ensure the project's completion. A good cause on a Monday, for sure!
