Looking back, it was only a matter of time. Cronuts exploded onto the scene last month, setting the culinary world on fire with their sultry, sugar-coated allure. Soon enough there were imitators and emulators across the world, attempting to crack the deep-fried code of the cronut and selling it to the desperate masses. Cronuts are basically Beyoncé. This week, a service called Premium Cronut Delivery launched, taking orders for delivery within Manhattan. Of course.
According to the official website, "Our white glove service enables you to enjoy New York's hottest confection without waiting in line at 5 a.m." So far, this is a dream come true, right? Totally, if you're willing to take out a loan. Cronuts, like any premium product, have a markup value that you wouldn't believe. One cronut goes for $100. Ten cronuts? $1,500. If you're willing to shell out for 20, it's going to run you $5,000. The service is donating 10% of proceeds to Food Bank New York, and we can't fault them there. But still.
People. Really. We all deserve a treat, but someone has to stop this. Friends don't let friends spend $5,000 on dessert. Let's all agree to give Krispy Kreme another shot.
