We get a thrill hunting down the coolest techie start-ups that San Francisco churns out on the reg. In fact, we even compiled a cool list of promising e-commerce destinations founded right here in the Bay. Turns out, we aren’t the only watchful eyes on the scene: Nordstrom has taken a minority stake in the gift-giving site, Wantful. A go-to hub for small-batch, artfully curated pressies dreamed up by local and global craftsmen, Wantful provides the goods we’re eager to unwrap.
Hot on the trend, Nordstrom became attracted to its unique approach and invested an undisclosed amount into the newbie site — it’s only two years old, with a staff of just 14 employees. So, what does this mean for us plastic-swiping shoppers? For starters, the department store will now be offering a specialty shop called "Nordstrom Gift Collection" in collaboration with Wantful. Only time will tell if the department store will get its hands on other local start-ups, and be tech industry’s gift that keeps on giving. (WWD)
