Hail Mary! A Tupac Musical’s Coming To Broadway

So, we know our East Coast loyalty means we should totally be Team Biggie, but we can't help but be totally psyched at the news of Holler If You Hear Me, a new musical based on the songs of Tupac. The show, which is currently in development, won't be a biographical tale, but instead follow the challenges of two childhood friends on the inner-city streets — with an all-'Pac soundtrack of course.
While the jams alone are enough to get us to fork over the ticket price, the musical also boasts some seriously Broadway talent, including director Kenny Leon (who did A Raisin In The Sun), and choreography from the Tony Award winner behind Wicked. To top it off, the show will be produced by the late rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur, who we know will keep the authenticity level on high (she did raise a ghetto king in a war). There's no word yet on a premiere date for the musical, but the team is shooting for the 2013-2014 season — here's hoping we don't see too many changes. (The Hollywood Reporter)
