Though Elizabeth Taylor went on to marry eight times, it's her first wedding dress that's become inseparable from the golden age of Hollywood. Created by famed costume designer Helen Rose in 1950, the dress (and all the pretty nostalgia that comes with it) went up for auction at Christie's this week — and some very lucky (read: enthusiastic) fan scooped it up for a considerable amount.
Originally estimated to sell between £30,000 and £50,000, the dress ended up selling for a cool £121,875 — more than double it's value. Taylor wore the dress in her 1950 marriage to Conrad Hilton, Jr. Inspired by her role in Father of the Bride, the dress was a gift from MGM Studios and apparently took 15 seamstresses several months to complete. Talk about a custom job! (Telegraph)
