Father John Misty, Wild Nothing: Terminal 5, July 24, $25
Over the years, Joshua Tillman has released albums under his own name, drummed for Fleet Foxes, and given some hilarious interviews. But it's his first album of psych-folk as Father John Misty that is truly making him a star. Meanwhile, opener Wild Nothing remains one of the best guitar bands around.
Wednesday, July 24, Terminal 5, 610 W. 56th Street (between 11th and 12th avenues); 212-582-6600.
Foxygen and Thao & The Get Down Stay Down: Pier 84, July 25, FREE
Sam France and Jonathan Rado's Foxygen project mixes '60s folk with modern pop, while fellow Bay Area-native Thao Nguyen captures relationship turmoil with wit and humor. Together, they make for a highly recommended free show.
Thursday, July 25, 6 p.m., Pier 84 (Hudson River Park between 43rd and 44th streets); No phone.
Bob Dylan, Wilco, Beck, Ryan Bingham: Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, July 26, $39.50
Billed, quite accurately, as "Americanarama," Bob Dylan's current tour pairs him with indie-rock mainstays Wilco, mercurial alt-rocker Beck, and more. And with tickets substantially lower than the usual Dylan outing, it's a perfect chance to get your folk on.
Friday, July 26, 6 p.m., Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, 1000 Ocean Pkwy; Wantagh, NY; 516-221-1000 .
