UPDATE: Elon Musk released details of his plan to create a more efficient, faster, and incredibly high-tech method of transportation between Northern and Southern California by way of the fantastically named Hyperloop system on the SpaceX blog today. Outlining some of the logistics and goals of the project, he then asked the question: "Is there truly a new mode of transport – a fifth mode after planes, trains, cars and boats – that meets those criteria and is practical to implement?" Originally published on July 16: Although we are pretty spoiled by our little 7x7 bubble of good drinks and even better treats, sometimes we wouldn't mind shooting down south in hopes of stealing some rays. Well, our dreams may just be taking form, because yesterday the Twittershpere was abuzz after Elon Musk (you may know of him as the founder of Tesla) announced that he will be unleashing some pretty cool travel plans (operative word here, plans) on Monday, August 12.
According to Business Insider, the literal road map entails a system called Hyperloop that will have you from NorCal to SoCal in a matter of minutes, 30 to be exact. Although details are vague, this magical vessel will expedite us from the Bay to L.A. and will be a "cross between a Concorde, a rail gun, and an air-hockey table,” Musk shared in a recent interview. The outline will not be patented and he is open to work with anyone who will help bring Hyperloop to life. The perks? Speedier travel, and more affordable than a flight.
