From Jethroux and Robsten to Kimye and Tay-Squared, combo-names for Hollywood's favorite couples have been customary for quite some time. And it's not just in Lala Land — NYC's real estate agents have long been imposing the same on our fair city's platonic communities, just because they live next to each other. But do monikers like GoSlo (Gowanus-Park Slope), BoAnus (Boerum Hill-Gowanus), and CoWaDi (Columbia Water District) really improve a neighborhood's cache?
Wethinks not, but as it turns out, the newest hybrid name is already here: Bedwick (a.k.a. Bed-Stuy and Bushwick). This tentatively emerging area of real estate appeared when broker/neologist Roni Dotan posted a listing on Stuyvesant Avenue as being in "Bedwick." However, Dotan claims he didn't come up with it, explaining that he's even heard it in conversation on the train and amongst young tourists. Realizing that he could capitalize on Bushwick's growing hipster cred and Bed-Stuy's consistently lower rents and Brownstone vibe, Dotan took the term live. "I think Bushwick is extremely desirable — it's a natural move to people from Williamsburg. You may get the best of both worlds." Well, as long as the promise of cheap rent, amenities, and larger spaces is true, we'd be happy to live there, or frankly, any newly-coined NYC hood. Even if its name ends in "anus." (Gothamist)
