For Its First Fashion Week, Opening Ceremony Is Bucking Convention

With Kenzo becoming one of the hottest tickets at Paris Fashion Week, owning half a dozen shops around the world, and repping a name that's synonymous with the fun side of high fashion, you'd think that Opening Ceremony would have already had a slot during NYFW reserved for years now. But, true to form, the brand doesn't quite do things according to "how it's done" and has waited until now to finally show its spring '14 collection at Fashion Week.
But don't expect a simple runway presentation to be all that Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have planned. WWD reports that in addition to the show, the NYC-based brand will host a marketplace of pop-ups, including its other labels carried in its shops at Pier 57. Called Opening Ceremony BTW (By The Water!), the marketplace will be housed in shipping crates, organized by brands including DKNY Exclusively for Opening Ceremony, Rihanna for River Island, Estée Lauder, Cocoa-Cola, Asia Dog, and Dominique Ansel Bakery. Opening Ceremony cronuts? Like it needed more reasons to get us to the show in September...now, we'll be there with our party hats on! (WWD)
