According to Kanye West, Kanye West is the latest victim of fashion plagiarism. And, the "number-one living and breathing rock star" — a self-appointed title — has made recent accusations against Saint Laurent creative director Hedi Slimane, the alleged culprit who's been lifting West's style, British Vogue reports.
Of course, while we can form an opinion based simply on what we've witnessed on the runway, as in all West-related news, it's better to let this argument come right from the source:
"So, when I see Hedi Slimane, and it's like, 'Okay, this is my take on the world,' yeah, he's got some nice $5,000 jeans in there, it's some nice ones here and there, some good shit here and there, but we are culture…Rap is the new rock and roll. We are culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We are the rock stars. It's been like that for a minute, Hedi Slimane. It's been like that for a minute. We the biggest rock stars, and I'm the biggest of all of them."
The British Vogue story continues to describe West's dilemma, including how the rapper takes responsibility for leather pants and likens his experience in fashion to that of the final scene of The Truman Show, in which Jim Carrey finally ends the illusion of the world that's been created around him. "I have reached the point where my Truman Show boat has crashed into the painting," West says. Which leads us to wonder, did The Truman Show plagiarize Kanye West, too? We wouldn't be surprised.
