Here's a collaboration we didn't see coming: Vera Wang has designed signature uniforms for the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleading team. The iconic designer, known for her innovative bridal wear (and home goods line) is going sporty. The uniforms — in black, white and green interchangeable separates — don't evoke Wang's usual design principles, but do seem a cut above your garden-variety cheer gear.
Christina Weiss Lurie, President of Eagles Youth Partnership and Social Responsibility, told E! that Wang, a personal friend, was her automatic go-to when it was time to give her team an aesthetic upgrade. "...We knew that she would be able to deliver a contemporary and fashion-forward look for the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. It was equally important to work with a designer who understood both the glamour and athleticism of NFL cheerleaders," she told the network. Wang has previous experience designing skating costumes for Michelle Kwan and Nancy Kerrigan.
Lurie seems happy with Wang's latest offerings, calling the shrugs, boy shorts, and sparkly sneakers "sleek" and "cutting-edge". As for us, we'll say they are quite an eyeful and let the Eagles fans call the final score on this one. (E!)
