The Voice Of Siri Comes Forward, For Reals This Time

We know, we got duped once. You can't blame us, can you? Unlike Siri, we're only human. And we were so eager to find the beating heart behind the robotic voice known so well to Apple acolytes that we got wrapped up in a case of mistaken identity. But we're here to tell you that we really know who the voice behind our iPhones' cheeky personal assistant is now. Well, we think.
Susan Bennett, a voice actor from suburban Atlanta, tells CNN that she is the person we've all been listening to since 2011. While Apple has not yet confirmed, CNN claims that she's telling the truth. They even brought in an audio forensics expert, who compared Bennett's voice and Siri's and concluded that they are without a doubt the same.

But why didn't she come forth sooner? The British and Australian Siris revealed their identities ages ago.
"I really had to weigh the importance of it for me personally," Bennett tells CNN. "I wasn't sure that I wanted that notoriety, and I also wasn't sure where I stood legally. And so, consequently, I was very conservative about it for a long time. And then this Verge video came out...And it seemed like everyone was clamoring to find out who the real voice behind Siri is, and so I thought, well, you know, what the heck? This is the time."
Bennett says that it took her a month to record Siri's voice in her home recording booth, "pulling out vowels, consonants, syllables and diphthongs, and playing with her pitch and speed." Those were later assembled into the robo-diction we all know and maybe don't love.
But Bennett's not only on your iPhone. She's been doing voice work since the 1970s, in commercials and on phone systems. She might even be the voice of your GPS device. But can your GPS device tell you godawful jokes? (CNN)
