New Yorkers can be so cavalier when it comes to the oddities of our world. That Naked Cowboy in Times Square? He's just making a living. Dogs wearing galoshes? Yeah, it's raining. The phrase "only in New York" stems from a tacit understanding to simply accept all the weird sh*t happening around us. That's why we're only sort of surprised that New Yorkers can have their groceries delivered by Trekkies this weekend.
To promote its "Brilliant Machines" campaign, GE has teamed up with TaskRabbit for a fully interactive experience. You see, GE's deep-sea oil and gas technology helps us discover and maximize resources in extreme conditions — not unlike the U.S.S. Enterprise. So, now through October 13, TaskRabbits will temporarily morph into TrekRabbits. Users who post tasks under $35 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. EST will be randomly selected to have a TrekRabbit complete their errand — at warp speed, of course.
GE is boldly going where no brand has gone before, but we do feel the need to offer a small bit of advice: If you see pointy-eared enthusiasts around Manhattan this weekend, don't be too eager to approach them about delivering your groceries — they could also just be Comic Con attendees.
