There are many ways to string together the songs of Britney Spears to create a compelling story. The most obvious would be the narrative of a sheltered songstress forced into the public eye, struggling under pressure, marrying her back-up dancer, eventually ending up a divorcée with two kids, but finding redemption, and coming back to reign supreme once more. Perhaps the least obvious would be a retelling of the story of Jesus. And, of course, it's this out-of-the-box construction that is hoping to be New York's next hit musical. Yep, SPEARS: The Gospel According To Britney might actually be happening.
SPEARS is a musical account of the life of Jesus as told through Britney Spears songs. We're talkin' hits like "(Hit Me Baby) One More Time," "Crazy," and "Stronger." The script was written and performed by Columbia students last spring, and it's now looking to move to the Great White Way. Right now, we guess you could say the musical is "Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," but we look forward to its resurrection and potential Broadway run, "Till The World Ends." (NY Mag)
