Four men were shot and killed late Sunday night in an alleged murder-suicide act in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Initially, the Wall Street Journal identified the shooter as Raefe Akhbar, an Iranian rock musician and member of the band Yellow Dogs. However, the band's manager spoke to Pitchfork later in the afternoon to clarify the relationships: "The shooter was not a former member of the band The Yellow Dogs, he was in another band from Iran and the two groups were acquaintances in the past." He continues, "A personal conflict between the guys resulted in the dissolution of their relationship in 2012. The shooting resulted in the death of two of the members of the Yellow Dogs, Sourosh Farazmand (guitarist) and Arash Farazmand (drummer), along with a friend of their, fellow musician and author Ali Eskandarian. The shooter died from a self-inflicted bullet wound on site."
More details will certainly surface in the coming hours and days, and hopefully help in bringing some form of momentary clarity to the band's family, friends, and fans. Our thoughts are with them. (Pitchfork)
