Lena Dunham Shows Us How To Wear A Fancy Basketweave

Basketweave is right up there with other fabrics as a look that can sometimes be hit-or-miss. Macramé and fringe, for instance, also make that list. So, needless to say, we were quite surprised with Lena Dunham's outfit choice last night for the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. But, slightly gothic, slightly peekaboo, the actress' Theyskens dress strayed far from the kind of basketweave we'd typically expect from great-grandma's crafting class.
Like other long-sleeved, floor-length numbers that are quite sexy, Dunham's look toed the line with a short dress layered beneath her basket covering. It showed off just a hint of skin — unlike other fully covered looks that are ironically almost NSFW — for an untraditionally ladylike ensemble. The result was dark, edgy, and totally not what we're used to seeing the Girls creator in. But, frankly, we're hoping this new Lena sticks around for a bit. Hey, maybe she'll teach us how to wear formal macramé next.
