Karl Lagerfeld Recreates The Story Of Chanel, Does Dallas

The resemblance is uncanny. Karl Lagerfeld has cast a Coco Chanel in his latest film for the fashion house that looks eerily similar to the late Gabrielle Chanel. As reported by WWD today, the designer created a 30-minute short to be presented before the Paris-Dallas Métiers d’Art collection, set to debut December 10. And, the Lone Star State, it seems, is in for a treat, as Lagerfeld has given his keen attention to every detail in this glimpse inside the iconic French designer's life. Down to the pearl, as WWD suggests.
Played by actress Geraldine Chaplin, Coco and her experience as an emerging designer is as close to the real story as possible in The Return, according to Lagerfeld. “The French press was beyond horrible to her," he says. Yet, this film serves as a thank-you to the U.S., who "rediscovered her." Of course, being a perfectionist, Lagerfeld cast only members who could portray the makings of the iconic fashion house true to form, which includes the same seamstresses behind the frocks on the Parisian runways. And, really, who better to play some of the first House of Chanel employees?
Above all, we're intrigued to get a peek at Madame Chanel through his eyes, and — if this short film is any indication — we wouldn't mind seeing what a longer Lagerfeld motion picture looks like someday. According to WWD, that's definitely a possibility. Click on for the full interview. (WWD)
