Style.com has revealed the exclusive first look at Givenchy's latest spring '14 campaign, which is fronted by Erykah Badu in a beautiful, architectural printed poncho. Said Tisci, "Erykah, she's an icon — come on! What I want to do with my advertising campaign is spread the love. Already now it's been three seasons that I've been using people that express something...It's kind of a family portfolio." So, what makes this campaign unique? The other ads include Maria Borges, Riley, and Asia Chow, which makes this the first campaign of its kind to exclusively use women of color.
For Tisci, it seemed like this decision was both that — a conscious choice — and an instinct. "There was a lot of talk this season in fashion [about designers not promoting diversity]," the designer told Style.com. "I was one of the persons who ended up not being touched by this. I discovered Joan Smalls, I discovered Maria [Borges]. I've always been supporting them. For me, I grew up in a family and I grew up in a culture, an education, that we are all the same." Tisci — preach! We're all looking forward to a time when true heterogeneity in fashion doesn't make the news anymore.
