You're undoubtedly jazzed for the upcoming season of Girls. We may or may not have several calendar notifications set up for January 12. And, our expectations for season three are way high after seeing the latest trailer. But, what about Lena Dunham's own goals for the show? The show's writer, producer, and star talked with Salon about her personal goals for the new installment of episodes: "One was to push each of the character’s back-stories and histories further and to better understand why they're facing what they're facing." So, maybe we'll finally understand why Adam is the way he is. Maybe. Dunham also says she wants to "talk about that moment when the messiness goes from feeling age-appropriate to 'Is this a problem?'" A feeling with which we're all too familiar.
But, in addition to more alone time with each character, Dunham's also got some specific plans for Hannah. "I really wanted it to be about why she wants to be a writer and what it means to her, to make it less about her relationship to any particular guy and about how she is defining herself." While the previous seasons explored the nuances of navigating the life of a twentysomething, we're excited to see a focus on character development. And, of course, that cameo from Jenna Lyons.
