Anna Kendrick is quickly proving herself to be one of the most formidable triple threats in Hollywood. Those of us who saw her sing in the choir comedy Pitch Perfect already knew she had serious pipes. Then, the rest of the world was clued in after her "Cups" cover of Lulu and the Lampshades' "You're Gonna Miss Me," from the film's soundtrack, became one of the year's unlikeliest hits. Now, it's time for President Obama to join Team Kendrick.
Earlier this week, CBS aired the December 8 Kennedy Center Honors, which included a live tribute to Shirley MacLaine featuring the 28-year-old actress alongside Broadway juggernauts Patina Miller, Karen Olivo, and Sutton Foster — and boy, did she ever hold her own. With the president and his wife in attendance alongside music legends Stevie Wonder and honorees Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock, and Carlos Santana, Kendrick ripped through a song-and-dance routine like she's been doing it all her life.
Turns out, she has. As a 12-year-old, Kendrick earned a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut in High Society, so singing in front of a live audience is nothing new. Still, we hope the talented actress continues to find projects that let her showcase all her talents, like the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, a fairy-tale-musical mashup with Kendrick playing the role of Cinderella. And, if the video below is any indication of what we can expect in that flick, consider us first in line for tickets. (Vanity Fair)
