Opening Ceremony is well-known for its amazing collaborations. But, we did not see this next partnership coming. The L.A.-based fashion powerhouse is teaming up with tech giant Intel. Wait, what?
Yep, you read that right. To kick off the annual Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, Intel announced it would join forces with Opening Ceremony to create a wearable device. You know, a Google glass, Nike Fuelband-type gadget — known in the tech industry as "wearables" (a newish word for us, too).
“We actually think the fashion industry should be in the driver’s seat for [wearables] in many ways," Vice president of business development and strategy for Intel’s New Devices Group, Ayse Ildeniz, explained to The Cut. "Up until today, we’ve seen that tech companies are largely driving it, but because wearables are so personal, and because you have to wear it as a reflection of yourself, that the fashion industry should be driving it.” Amen, to that!
While very few details have been released about the actual function or look of this wearable, we do know it will take the shape of a bracelet. Predictions on how fast it trends? And, yes, we mean that in every techy/fashion way possible. (The Cut)
