The Gone Girl Countdown Officially Starts Now

There may be no other movie this year that's more highly anticipated than David Fincher's Gone Girl, which is exactly why Entertainment Weekly put it on the cover of its 2014 preview issue.
Based on Gillian Flynn's eponymous bestselling novel, the thriller stars Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne, a writer at the center of an investigation of the disappearance of his wife, played here by Rosamund Pike. Going into any further detail about the plot would just spoil all the fun, so unless you want to read the book (everyone you know probably has a copy), you'll have to wait until October 3rd like the rest of us, when the film is scheduled to hit theaters.

And although its release is still almost a year away, the official hype machine starts now, with this gorgeously morbid cover shot by Fincher himself. The director, whose last attempt at adapting a universally-beloved crime novel didn't go so well, says he's learned a thing or two from his experience making The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. "We may have been too beholden to the source material,” he told the magazine.
Does this mean fans can expect certain variations from the book? According to Flynn, who also wrote the screenplay, that's exactly what it means. "There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie."
A good movie, we hope. (Entertainment Weekly)
