"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for swimsuit models."
We hope that was the joke Kate Upton made when she was in space recently. Okay, so she wasn't actually in space. But, America's favorite cover girl was photographed in a zero gravity chamber for Sports Illustrated's upcoming 50th anniversary swimsuit issue.
According to sources close to the shoot, Upton was shot in a silver bikini, with blown-out hair reminiscent of outer space's most notorious sex symbol Barbarella. Not much else is known about the shoot. But, based on its high concept and production value, we're going to go ahead and guess that Upton is going to be the first woman to land three consecutive covers since Elle Macpherson did it in the late '80s.
And, with news that the magazine has also shot legends Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Carol Alt, and Bar Refaeli for the upcoming issue, it looks like it's truly going to be out of this world. Pun intended.
The issue hits newsstands February 11. (Page Six)
