In light of Alexander Wang's in-your-face, ultra-gritty spring campaign that he debuted for his namesake line last week, the reveal of the designer's photos for Balenciaga comes as a breath of fresh air. Far away from any bathroom stalls, Daria Werbowy poses for the Steven Klein-lensed campaign. She stands peacefully, almost mysteriously, against a wall as vines wind around in the background and on the model herself. Featuring perfect, shadow-casting light and a super-rich shade of deep-purple lipstick, the image is stunning. But, it doesn't leave us quite so stunned.
No matter which kind of Alexander Wang campaign you preferred, both images certainly speak to the strength and versatility of the New York designer. While he may be splitting his time and talents between two different cities and brands, his ability to create a pair of complete sartorial worlds is seriously impressive. And, though the best place to see that is typically on the runway, these side-by-side images illustrate the point pretty perfectly. (WWD)
