Grey’s Anatomy Will Probably Be Renewed For Eternity

Grey's Anatomy fan? You're in luck. According to ABC president Paul Lee, the hit medical drama — now, in its 10th season, one of the longest running prime-time shows ever — isn't going anywhere any time soon. The show continues to draw large audiences in the coveted 18- to 49-year-old demographic, pretty much guaranteeing it something near eternal status on its home network.
Says Lee: "[Executive producer] Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest writers that our generation has seen. She's continuing to write an immensely powerful show. It makes you laugh and cry every week, and what season are we now?...I think it's going to stay on the network for many years to come."

Of course, Grey's core players, Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, may exit long before the show bows, with other series mainstay Sandra Oh set to leave after this current season.
But, screenwriting powerhouse Shonda Rhimes seems poised to stick it out for the long haul. When you also factor in Scandal's (and Kerry Washington's) skyrocketing popularity, you could argue Rhimes is not only the most potent producer on ABC but on all of network television right now. Her output may divide critics, but she certainly has the soap opera-y mass appeal and numbers to guarantee her comfortable mainstream longevity. (E!)
