We often praise the on-stage cast members of Saturday Night Live for a steady stream of laughs. Of course, the comedy troupe delivers. But, between chuckles, it's easy to forget that behind them is a strong team of writers. Now, in the seemingly never-ending changes for the show, one of those writers will take the spotlight. Colin Jost, the show's head writer, will replace Seth Meyers as co-anchor of "Weekend Update."
If you've never heard of Jost, you're about to be very impressed. He's a Harvard grad who landed a gig writing for the show in 2005. You know, just a year after graduating. In 2012, he became head writer, and has held the title ever since. And, if his stellar career wasn't enough, he's also dating fellow comedic powerhouse Rashida Jones.
There's no word yet if Jost will do any sketches other than his co-hosting gig with Cecily Strong. But, if he absolutely nails it, then maybe we'll see him in other scenarios, too. Set aside the night of February 1, people. It's the last time you'll see Meyers behind that desk. (Gothamist)
