Have you noticed how fancy breakfast has become? The best meal of the day is suddenly so much more than a bowl of cornflakes and a cup of joe. To prove this theory, The Evening Standard has helpfully compiled its top 10 breakfast trends in London right now.
The traditional fry-ups have been replaced by baked eggs and chorizo sausages. Frothy coffee, the height of sophistication in the ‘60s, is superseded by the drip variety — Portland, eat your heart out. And, butter makes a welcome return to the dining table in delectable forms like the medjool-date flavor at Trip Kitchen.
For us, the trends we’ve spotted are a return to communal dining. Most restaurants we pop into appear to have at least one long feasting table — The Modern Pantry, Riding House Café, and The Breakfast Club are among our favorites. And, avocados are now a bona-fide morning culinary essential, with a rising number of restos offering “smashed avo on toast” alongside more traditional offerings.
