Whether you've attended Fashion Week or not, one of the worst feelings to experience is the impending doom you sense while stuck in a taxi cab, headed to an event and knowing that you're running so late the doors will likely close in your face. And, lock you out. We already know it's bound to happen this week as we rush from show to show while checking Twitter for any signs that hopefully the models haven't taken to the runway yet. But, there are new, more complicated challenges this year — more so than ever before — that may not only make the commute a bit more chaotic for us, but for the international fashion pack as well.
As outlined by WWD this morning, NYFW is truly all over the place this year, with events being held at Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side, Industria Studios in the Meatpacking District, 23 Wall Street in the Financial District, and over the bridge in Brooklyn. And, that's just to name a few. “It’s really tragic, although that’s an overused word, that those of us who come from outside of America, we don’t just come to see the shows. We come to see New York, what’s happening...everything. I actually don’t want to spend my time on the West Side Highway," Suzy Menkes tells the publication. And, while those who live in New York may find the traffic to be more annoying and typical than "tragic," we completely understand the sentiment.
While IMG has already hired shuttle buses to escort editors, buyers, and the like from Lincoln Center to MADE Fashion Week at Milk Studios, that doesn't mean we're not in for a lot of subway, cab, and Town Car quality time in the next few days. Is this "tragic"? Perhaps. But, here's hoping we have just enough time to take our seat before the lights do down. (WWD)
